{ø_ø} – pronounced Brackethead – is the new alter ego of Simon Öggl. A Vienna based, self confessed music geek, composer and music producer. Simon wrote his very first orchestral piece when he was only 15 years old and hasn’t stopped since. Now, a decade later, he writes for internationally known orchestras and ensembles such as Klangforum Wien.
Apart from writing contemporary concert music, Simon is part of the electronic band Drahthaus. Aside from this he does production for a number of local artists as well as some remixing work.
{ø_ø} combines the weird aesthetics of Aphex Twin with a J-Dilla-like smoothness. Experimental is the name of the game here, be that dirty hip-hop beats or electronica. Clean well-defined sound design and razor sharp production techniques stylise the arrangements.
{ø_ø} blends an explorative musical style with strong textures full of colour and feeling. Aaron Hader (saxphone, Elis Noa) and Vincent Pongracz (rap/clarinet, SYNESHTETIC 4) feature on Simon’s debut EP: Hi, it’s Brackethead!
